Do I need to see a doctor before I come to camp?
All staff members must complete a Health Form and undergo a physical exam by their doctor prior to camp.
Do I need to bring lunch?
Robin Hood provides a complimentary lunch for staff. We serve our food family style with healthy fresh fruits and salad available everyday. Counselors sit with their campers and are expected to supervise while in the Lunch Areas. Counselors are responsible to insure that their groups clean their lunch area before going to their next activity.
Do I need additional health insurance?
No additional insurance is needed because staff members are covered under the New York Workman’s Compensation Law for injuries sustained while on the job or in the performance of one’s duties.
Where does the staff come from?
Robin Hood attracts staff from the entire New York metropolitan area. Most come from Queens and Long Island and have diverse backgrounds.
How do I get paid?
Compensation is a combination of salary and completion bonus. We pay one-half the salary in the middle of our camp season and the second half on the last day of camp. Perfect attendance and staff referral bonuses are paid at the end of camp.
What are my working hours?
Camp hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm. Some staff may be required to stay late for parent visiting and/or one overnight.
What should I wear to camp?
Our staff members are expected to maintain a neat and professional appearance. Robin Hood will provide you with three staff shirts, and a staff shirt must be worn daily. Group counselors must wear one-piece bathing suits only. Robin Hood will provide towels for use at the pool.
What should I expect of Orientation?
Counselors are required to attend two days of orientation in June. Group Leaders and Specialists are required to attend three days. Orientation covers all aspects of camp and expectations of counselors and specialists. This is also an opportunity to get to know the other counselors and staff. There will be advice on dealing with various situations you may come across at camp. Adventure specialists will have additional orientation regarding the use of equipment and program safety. There will be sexual harassment and verbal abuse training as well as health training in the use of an epi pen. There are classes available for CPR and First Aid Rescue.
